Fun overdose at Glo Ojude Oba Concert: Mi, Reekardo Banks leave thousands panting for breath.. as new Miss Ojude Oba emerges

After over five hours of thrilling and energy-sapping performances, three of Nigeria's biggest entertainers, MI, Reekardo Banks and veteran showbiz anchor, Gbenga Adeyinka left thousands of drained fun-seekers panting to regain their breath at the Glo Ojude Oba music concert.

The fun-seekers were served an overdose of entertainment they would not forget in a lifetime. Showstoppers, Globacom, acclaimed for pulling off great entertainment shows, packaged the event as an encore to the main Ojude Oba Festival parade which it had sponsored earlier last Wednesday at the Ojude Oba Parade Ground with thousands of dignitaries including four serving state governors in attendance.

Nothing prepared guests for the deluge of funtainment that played out as the evening started slowly but quickly built into a crescendo. It all went down at the Equity Hotel Music Arena  in  Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

New Fuji sensation, Small Doctor, was the first big act of the night. Realising that his first set of songs did not wow the overtly demanding crowd, Small Doctor reeled out his more popular songs in quick succession to the extreme delight of the crowd. The crowd joined him to sing along as he rendered Mosquito killer, Uzobu, Gbagaun and Ile Ijo

Reekardo showed why he has joined the big league of Nigerian entertainers. Barely two years ago, the musician's name would hardly ring a bell and neither could he boast of a club banger.  He left no one in doubt that he has come of age. He reeled out waves after waves of popular tracks from his rich repertoire including Katapot, Sugar Boy, Chop Am, Oluwa Ni (rated as one of the biggest Nigerian songs in the last three months), and Na ur Boy. He got the excited youth pulsating with passion as they danced and sang along with their idol, while several of them wielded their android phones to freeze the moments for later enjoyment.

The "incredible" one, MI may not have a series of new hit songs but he proved that music is like wine which matures more with every passing day. The crowd became hysterical when he performed his all time hit songs such as African Rapper Number 1, Bullion Van, Oshe, N1, Chairman among others. The arena simply erupted in ecstacy.

As part of the features of the fun-filled evening which drew thousands of youth and fun-loving senior citizens, the total telecoms solutions provider also staged a beauty contest where the most beautiful lady of the pageantry was crowned Miss Ojude Oba. It also gave out branded gifts to winners of the dance and singing competitions to make the yearly music carnival even more memorable.

At the end of the keenly-contested competition, 20-year-old Miss Adejoke Balogun, a 400-level student of English and Literary Studies from the Tai Solarin University of Education  won the coveted crown and a cash prize of N150,000, while 22-year-old Omolade Osetekun, a graduate of Industrial and Labour relations and 22-year-old Motunrayo Durojaye, a graduate of Home and Hotel Management, both from the same school, came second and third respectively.

Expressing appreciation to Globacom for showcasing the youth of Ijebuland through the competition, Miss Ojude Oba said winning the crown had made her self-confidence to soar.  “It was like receiving a major vaccination against fear of failure and rejection. It feels good to be acknowledged as a beautiful young woman", she said adding "I intend to be a role model to younger girls by making them know that it is possible to combine beauty with brains."

In the same vein, Osetekun and Durojaye joined voices to laud Globacom for its first class products and services and for supporting Nigerian youth and empowering them for a brighter future.

Commercial Coordinator, Globacom, Mr Folu Aderibigbe, who represented the Chairman of the company, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jr., at the Ojude Oba festival declared  that the company’s continued sponsorship of Ojude Oba was as a result of its belief in the culture and traditions of the Ijebu people as veritable tools of unity and cohesion.

Globacom which has sponsored the post-Eid-el-Kabir festival for ten consecutive years said the sponsorship was to celebrate the unique culture of the Ijebu people as well as to foster the cause of tourism in the country as espoused by government.
